Carver High School

Located in the eastern sector of the city, this existing high school opened in 1952 and during the years of segregation served a black student body. In the late 1990's, there was a recommendation to demolish the school. It was met with considerable protest from its community because this high school was one of the first new high schools at that time to be constructed for the black community. Because it was held in such high esteem by so many of its graduates and because of its solid construction, the decision was made to renovate and add on.

Tanglewood Pool
The Aquatic Center is located in a rural public park owned and operated by the County. The center is located along the park main road and adjacent to a large parking lot that served a former pool (since demolished) and existing tennis center/courts to the North. It was the logical location for the aquatic center. The aquatic center responds to a varied clientele and events that include toddlers and teenagers, recreational swimmers, tri-athletes, competition meets, and provides decking for sunning, concession, and picnicking.

Yadkin Family YMCA
Yadkin Family YMCA contains a gymnasium, natatorium, youth center, racquetball courts, jogging track, childcare, aerobics, weight room, locker rooms, and offices. The buildings were designed for both function and form in relation to the site constraints with materials and finishes that would stand the test of time. The Yadkin YMCA features an outdoor mini-water park with tumblebuckets, teacup, lemon drop and water spray features.
